Limited-edition cereal available online and in select stores to help Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism reach record goals for autism awareness and support
WALTHAM, Mass., Oct. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Doug Flutie is no stranger to comebacks, and Flutie Flakes is making a comeback to help the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism reach $50 million in donations.
To get this historic box, go to www.flutieflakescereal.com and see the bundles with limited edition cereal bowls, hats and shirts.
In 1998, the former NFL quarterback, worked with Ty Ballou, president of Ballou Sports & Entertainment to reach a modest goal of $10,000 for the foundation. Flutie Magic struck on and off the field as Flutie helped lift the Buffalo Bills to the playoffs, and sports fans across the nation bought over 3.2 million boxes of cereal.
As a result, the Flutie Foundation has raised nearly $50 million for autism awareness and causes since its inception.
“Flutie Flakes and Ballou Sports & Entertainment have had a great relationship from Day 1,” Flutie said. “Here we are, over 25 years later, we are closing in on $50 million raised for the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism.”
Flutie gets asked often about Flutie Flakes, and many fans are looking to not only eat the new cereal, but add another box to the collection.
“To see the original boxes fans kept is amazing. A few have the shirts. But there was no internet like today to order the box and shirts,” Flutie said.
On the website, you can order a two-pack of the cereal or bundles with the Flutie Flakes hat or shirt and cereal bowls. There is also an option to buy a case of 12 boxes. In 1998, stores limited sales to two boxes per customer.
“I’ve worked with hundreds of athletes and entertainers, and nothing compares to Flutie Flakes, or the way the Bills fans and the nation embraced the foundation Doug and Laurie Flutie created,” said Ty Ballou, President of Ballou Sports & Entertainment. “To work on this box to help get to $50 million raised for such a great cause has me overwhelmed with nostalgia and joy.”
Nick Savarese, Executive Director of the Flutie Foundation, said, “When Doug and Laurie launched the foundation, they had no idea what it would become 28 years in the making. They took it from what they thought was going to be a small thing to a real, live foundation which has a great impact on so many people, and really, it was because of Flutie Flakes. Hopefully, this fall, we reach $50 million raised for people with autism and their families over the course of our foundation’s history. It’s all due to Doug and Laurie and Flutie Flakes.”
Flutie Flakes will be distributed by Boone Center, Inc. (BCI), a nonprofit dedicated to creating employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
